According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), approximately two-thirds of U.S. household fire deaths result from fires in homes with A) No smoke alarms or B) Working smoke alarms with old or missing batteries. Catch the it before it gets out of control by installing smoke detectors throughout your home.
If an inferno does break out in your home, it’s imperative that you have the ability to fight the it. Extinguishers are often over looked when it comes to fire safety in the home. Having multiple ABC extinguishers spread throughout your home for fast, easy access is never a bad idea.
Fire Proof Safe
If your first two lines of safety measures (smoke detectors and extinguishers) fail, make sure you have a strong defense to rely on. Start with a heat/flame proof safe to protect your most important documents and possessions, such as SSN cards, birth certificates, passports, jewelry, etc. I like this lightweight safe that’s also waterproof.
Preserve Your Memories
If you’re like me, you have boxes of photographs and home videos sitting in your closet. These boxes contain some of my greatest memories and moments in life. Unfortunately in their current forms they’re not easily viewable and even worse, if they were lost in a fire there is no way to get them back and my family memories would be lost forever. The best solution I’ve found is the Heartland Box. This is the easiest way to digitize my families best memories and moments, preserving our memories for future generations.
